HTC confirms HD2’s US arrival (Q1 2010)

I am not a WinMo fan. If you’ve been reading PhoneDog for any period of time, you already know that. I’ve tried embracing this OS (which, for an Apple girl, isn’t an easy task), to no avail. But if there was ever a device that would make me give the Microsoft mobile platform another shot, the HD2 would be it. I have to hand it to HTC — This highly anticipated follow-up to the Touch HD is one sexy handset. And today, the...

Cheerio: HTC HD2 hits T-Mobile UK on November 6

In the spirit of international relations I give you some leaksauce straight outta T-Mobile UK. HTC's HD2 will launch across the pond November 6th, available on monthly contracts only. How do I know? Because Americans and Europeans generally flip-flop the month and day when they write dates, so that "06/11/2009" listed on the screengrab from T-Mobile UK's corporate database means November 6, 2009, not June 11, 2009. Smart, huh? Well, it's smart...

Forget Apple vs MS: NYT says it’s WinMo vs Android (and Microsoft’s losing)

The New York Times believes the big cell phone manufacturers are moving away from Windows Mobile, and moving toward Android devices. (Based on the recent onslaught of Android news, that’s not hard to imagine.) The article, written by Saul Hansell and titled “Big Cellphone Makers Shifting to Android System,” notes a few facts to make its case: Phone manufacturers that used to favor WinMo for their top-tier smartphones have...

Thoughts: A weekend with Verizon's HTC Touch Pro2

This weekend, I decided to take a trip away from the city and into the higher elevations for a weekend getaway.  I wanted to visit with my family, and while there, to check out the scenery that the region is known for around this time.  Though I brought my various personal wireless lines with me, my primary provider doesn't get service in the area.  Immediately realizing the opportunity for a real-life test, I charged the Verizon...

Quietly Red: HTC unveils ad campaign, bringing Dragon to VZW as Passion?

HTC unveiled their first mainstream ad campaign this morning. Hinged around the tag line, "A phone that gets you," and the slogan "Quietly Brilliant," the campaign features print and video ads, has already hit YouTube, and should be permeating your psyche via various major media outlets around the globe over the coming weeks and months. The new campaign is a bold but, dare I say, timely move from a gadget maker long loved by cell phone nerds...

HTC S710 in-depth review - Introduction & Design

HTC does only one thing, they produce cellular devices, and luckily for the HTC 710 they do that one thing extremely well. The HTC 710 not only provides its users with all the features of the newly released Windows Mobile 6.0, it does so in a design that is much smaller than earlier models of HTC devices, think the Cingular 8525 but smaller, sleeker and more practical.Much like the T-Mobile Wing, the HTC S710 combines the power of a quad-band...

I've seen videos of Motorolas running 6.5, however, thats still depends on the cell phones individual companies whether or not they will make it available to the devices....hence Moto may or may not officially support and make 6.5 available for the Q9h.

Re: PDA phone that can sync w/outlook, but no data plan!

All current Windows Mobile phones can do all that, and not need a data plan.  I do that with my wife's BlackJack II.  She has all her Outlook contacts, bluetooth, and so one.  She doesn't go on the web or anything.  And no, she doesn't ahve a data plan.  So, in terms of touchscreen functionality, that depends on you to what carrier and what phone they have.  But with just in terms of messaging, Windows Mobile phones...

Re: Windows mobile shell

Re: Windows mobile shell

I am currently using the LG Incite, but have used other Windows Mobile phones, like the AT&T 8125-8525, and Palm 750.  The basic answer is yes, you can load up SPB Mobile Shell.  However, not having the Touch Pro 2, I can't say that it would work correctly.  (screen size and the such)  You can certanily install it, just how it would react, I'm not sure.  Same would go with SkyFire.  No, it wont matter if...

I am new to smart phone and have a question. If I were to get a phone such as the HTC Touch Pro 2 when it comes out (hopefully), it comes with the touch pro 3D software loaded on it. Also can you load a 3rd party browser like the new Skyfire browser (seen here http://www.skyfire.com/ ). I did...

Re: U.S. Cellular to get the HTC Touch Pro2

The phone doesn't go on sale until Black Friday. According to a leaked email ALL USCC phones will be FREE will mail in rebate for 4 days of the sale. The Touch Pro2 has been said to be $70 with a $70 mail in rebate.

I went to the local store today to play around with one and it's a very nice phone. A little sluggish at times but the screen looks amazing, video playback over EVDO is very quick and the Youtube app was very nice, providing full screen playback.

The included weather app actually allowed you to add your local city, a problem that they had before with the HTC Touch. Weather animations were a bit sluggish but did add a nice touch to the interface.

Keyboard was nicely laid out and should be very easy to get used to.

Re: Re: HTC Video #1: You Are Different From You

ok i agree that the hero should have android 2.0 but texting is fine on the phone i have the hero keyboards are for blackberrys and sidekicks lol i used the moto droid and i hated the keys on it but what would be good is if they took the touch pro 2 and put andriod 2.0 or higher on it then iam sold to but until then the hero works fine for me

Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

My girlfriend has had this phone for over a month. TouchFlo 3D is a great skin, but it's a shallow one. If you want to do anything besides the basic stuff you're stuck with windows 6.5 which is not finger friendly or user friendly. Windows 6.5 also has a bad memory leak. You will often find yourself idle at 70-80% ram. This id with absolutely nothing up. You can find some fixes for this on xda, but they defintely don't make the problem go away, not to mention the every day consumer isn't going to know about xda devs or these fixes.

I think for a windows mobile phone it's good. Windows mobile has never shined in the hands of the general user, but winmo is one of the most flexible OSs out there. Most of the Imagio's problems are with 6.5 and not the actual phone itself, though we are still waiting for an update to fix these problems, and it's not looking like we'll see one soon. I'm not exactly sure where microsoft is at moment. They don't even seem to be on the same planet as the rest of us.

So, unfortunately, I can't recommend this phone for anyone. I really wish my girlfriend would have returned hers for one of the droids. If you like windows mobile, pick up the Touch Pro 2. The hard spl has been cracked, it's not running 6.5, and it has an amazing keyboard. If you're new to smart phones I'd recomend the Droid Eris. With the Sense UI it's got a very friendly interface, and you're probably the consumer it is aimed towards. Finally, it you're looking for an upgrade from an old smart phone, the Droid is the answer. The thing is amazingly fast, and a true upgrade from phones of last year and even most of the ones coming out this year.

Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

Awesome screen but at the end of the day its still windows mobile. I just got the 9700 and its the best blackberry I've ever own. Once the skyfire browser becomes a reality it may even be perfect.

Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

do u need a data plan with this phone

Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

pretty

Re: Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

theres a few keyboards you can can. But i really wouldnt recommend this phone, it has alot of freezing issues and the keyboard lag is terrible sometimes. i'd just go with the droid, its cheaper anyway lol.

Re: First Impressions: HTC Imagio (Verizon Wireless)

Can you get a program or an interface to change the on screen keyboard? Kinda how TouchFLO works over WinMo.

Yeah I was thinking this as well
