OPEX Value Plus 2.7 User Review
![]() Deceptive Practices, Sub-Par Customer ServiceOverall Rating: By: Christina McLeod on Tuesday, July 24, 2007From: Southern, MD (United States) Experience: 2 Months Pros: NoneCons: Minimum usage fee Deceptive rate advertising Unknowledgable and unhelpful customer serviceSummary: I have been with OPEX for approximately two months and have had nothing but problems. First, I am being billed a $1.99 paper billing fee when the only way the company bills is via paper. I was told by customer "un"service that they are having issues with their systems and can't sign anyone up for electronic billing at this time and that I would have to pay the fee. Second, every time I call with billing issues, the representatives don't seem to know anything about this company, proper customer service procedures, what actions to take to solve an issue, etc. I'm doubtful all of them even have a working knowledge of the English language. I am in the process of switching to another long distance company due to the deceptive billing practices and the inability of anyone at this company to fix a problem. Rates are ok, but there are other companies that provide the same rates that I'm sure are more reliable and professional. Sign up for OPEX at your own risk! 19 out of 28 people found this review helpful We'll have to see...Overall Rating: By: L. Flowers on Monday, July 23, 2007From: Houston, TX (United States) Experience: 1 Months Pros: Price, I think...Cons: Account not set up when ordered; no communication to advise account not initiated, but was sent an e-mail message welcoming me to OPEX within 24 hours of requesting service, telling me that I need do nothing to initiate service; after two months still being billed by AT&T, I called the OPEX customer service number and was told to call AT&T and set it up myself (very nicely, though...)Summary: I will be happy to re-evaluate the service once I have had 3 months service from OPEX. As of now, I still have long distance charges from AT&T, 3 months after attempting to get rid of them and use service from OPEX. Please request a second review in September. Thank you. 13 out of 24 people found this review helpful It's okayOverall Rating: By: George McBride on Saturday, July 21, 2007From: Machiasport, ME (United States) Experience: 90 Days Pros: No difference in service from Verizon, what I had before, that I can tell.Cons: I'm confused about how the billing works.Summary: I made the move to OPEX because Verizon hit me with $3 per min phone charges for several out of country calls. I was offended that they would charge me so much above going rates, even if they could. So far I have no real complaints about OPEX. I have a hard time distinguishing between the different service features, local vs. long distance vs. in state long distance. Also, I still don't quite understand how the billing works. I don't understand why I don't get a bill in the mail or in my email. The voice quality seems fine. No connection issues for me. 11 out of 20 people found this review helpful Everything as promisedOverall Rating: By: Linda P. on Monday, July 09, 2007From: San Diego, CA (United States) Experience: 2 Months Pros: Really low rates, customer service fast and helpful, never any technical problemsCons: They don't e-mail you a bill, as far as I know. I have to check the website each month. I have them set up for auto payment, but it could be a little more convenient.Summary: I just added local toll calls because I have had ZERO problems with Opex long distance and AT&T is charging 10c/minute plus $2/month for local toll calls, which I don't even make that often. I should probably disclose that I don't make a lot of long distance calls, either (I usually use my cell for that, which has free l.d.), and that's why I like Opex -- no minimums yet when I do have to use it, it's dirt cheap. 10 out of 20 people found this review helpful No problems whatsoever!Overall Rating: By: Mimi Cole on Tuesday, July 03, 2007From: Chicago, IL (United States) Experience: 3 Months Pros: Seamless. Even an international cellphone call - which I thought would be prohibitively expensive - was only 6 cents a minute.Cons: Prefer getting a bill by mail, without the $1.99 monthly fee for doing so.Summary: Quite happy with the service, particularly after the train wreck that is AT&T. No problems at all, but I do wish that I could get a paper bill without a fee. Still, small price to pay for a service that I was paying at least $35/monthly for with AT&T. 8 out of 24 people found this review helpful What did I do to deserve OPEX?Overall Rating: By: Kathrine Betz on Thursday, June 28, 2007From: Fairfield, CA (United States) Experience: 90 Days Pros: Nothing yet since I signed up on 3/31/07. I have signed up for a different carrier today. Cons: It has been a very frustrating experience without any resolutions to numerous problems.Summary: I signed up on 3/31/07 and my service was not activated with OPEX until 5/6/07. When I received a rather large bill from my previous carrier because I had not been switched over earlier I called "customer service" and that was a mistake. I was given the old run-around and 4 calls later told to write a letter to a supervisor in Los Angeles. She has never responded. In the meantime I had to use 10-10-987 for lots of my international calls since the calls had so much static and cut out words. The final straw was when I got a call 3 days ago reminding me to pay my "overdue bill" which I had never received on paper or on e-mail. I immediately gave the payment info to the "customer service" person and of course it was not processed and I had to go online and do it again! Waiting time to reach someone on the phone at OPEX was never less than 15 minutes. 11 out of 19 people found this review helpful Crazy billOverall Rating: By: John G on Thursday, May 31, 2007From: Trenton, NJ (United States) Experience: 10 Years Summary: I used Opex for 10 years and I was basically satisfied until last month when I received a $725 bill. I was charged $9.99 a minute for two international phone calls that I have called many times before. I have always been charged 5cents a minute when I called that number. I called Opex customer service dozens of times with absolutely no result. Customers cannot speak to anyone in billing and supervisors are never available. I was repeatedly told to be patient: with a $700 bill when my bill usually averages $25 ... I don't think so. At this point, nothing is solved and I would strongly advise customers against opening an account with Opex. 15 out of 25 people found this review helpful Can't go wrongOverall Rating: By: Nicole Culp on Tuesday, May 08, 2007From: Elkhorn, WI (United States) Experience: 60 Days Pros: low price and customer service!!!Summary: Erverything about Opex is great. I have used it in many different locations - homes, businesses...can't beat the price or the customer service! 14 out of 25 people found this review helpful OPEX ValueOverall Rating: By: G Hollis on Thursday, May 03, 2007From: Wilmington, NC (United States) Experience: 5 Months Pros: Low Cost, online access to account including phone line usage reports. Great value.Cons: None.Summary: If you are worried about voice quality, like I was, don't. I have been unable to detect any difference in voice quality. Worried about the fax line, was continually have faster transmission speeds now that we have changed over. With the savings in long distance charges, we have been able to add an 800 number and still reduce our overall bill (long distance and local long distance) by over 60% a month. Additionally with the online tools, we are able to keep better track of billable long distance charges. 15 out of 20 people found this review helpful Opex long distance and local tollOverall Rating: By: Tommy Segawa on Tuesday, May 01, 2007From: Los angeles, CA (United States) Experience: 8 Months Pros: Great way to lower your high priced telephone billsCons: If you haven't made a change then you should.Summary: I have nothing bad to say. If it weren't for Opex my long distance and local toll would be out of sight. Thank you very much for the great service... 20 out of 26 people found this review helpful |
Long Distance - Did you know?Over 25 Million people use AT&T’s basic plan. They could save hundreds of dollars each year, if they switched. Are you still using AT&T, Sprint, or MCI?
