Lot and Lots of Dropped Calls

Overall Rating:
1.3 out of 5
By: Thomas Schneider on Thursday, November 01, 2007
From: Thompsonville, MI (United States)
Experience: 12 Months
Pros: The service is cheap, no doubt about it

Cons: Poor customer service, sounds like outsourced to Dehli. Poor quality, dropped calls. Website for online account maintainence was reworked a few months ago, new site is terrible

Summary: We have calls dropped REGULARLY. The call will pop or get very loud then be disconnected, about 50% of the time an immediate redial will produce the message "I'm sorry, all long distance circuits are busy now..." .. My interpretation is they needed the line for someone paying more than 2.7 cents and threw me off!

Unacceptable customer service

Overall Rating:
2.3 out of 5
By: Annette Chalk on Thursday, October 04, 2007
From: Fort Wayne, IN (United States)
Experience: 60 Days
Pros: To be determined, but signed up due to lowest rates.

Cons: Horrible customer service

Summary: It was easy to sign up, but took me a good month to get service actually activated. Opex told me via phone they were waiting on my local carrier to make the switch, I had to make the call.
Now that under a new owner, have not been able to reach anyone, either too long of wait time or disconnected. E-mail was returned and waiting to see if another e-mail sent 3 days ago will be answered or returned. Also pessimistic my switching fee will be reimbursed.

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: Jodi Jodi on Monday, September 17, 2007
From: Fall River, WI (United States)
Experience: 1 Years
Pros: low cost

Cons: Very poor customer service and billing mix up that has cost me much more than the little I save using their service.

Summary: There was a problem with their online billing system this month and they ended up charging me over $900.00 for an $80.00 phone bill. I have now spent over 9 hours on the phone or waiting for them to call me back to resolve the problem, but still do not have my money back. The problem originated 4 days ago, and I was told again today that my money would not be returned until tomorrow. In the mean time I have had to have overdraft protection on my checking account to cover my other expenses that were paid while my $900.00 sits in limbo. Through this process I have talked with 4 different people, been disconnected 4 times, and have had to have the same conversation with the same person twice because he did not keep proper notes. And to top things off I am getting daily recorded messages from them saying that my phone bill has not been paid and is over due! If the problem is not resolved tomorrow I will be contacting my lawyer. I highly recommend not using this company no matter how much it may save you. I figure that my total investment (not including the $900.00) is over $350.00 with my time spent, and the interest on my overdraft coverage. That would cover a lot of charges with a different company that knows how to provide good service.

opex hidden charges

Overall Rating:
3.3 out of 5
By: Hiram anonymous on Monday, September 17, 2007
From: Los Angeles, CA (United States)
Experience: 4 Months
Pros: instate and state-to-state charges ok. Reimbursed switching charges

Cons: hidden charges, switching problems

Summary: Charges a .74 fee each month callilng it a USF (Fed. Universal Service Fund fee), even if you make no calls, which is never mentioned in their ads, which enriches Opex because the feds charge a percentage of your charge, not a fixed fee.

Went through all the hoops, including voice confirmation, to switch. Months later found out I had never been switched. Customer service couldn't understand it, the order was placed but never carried out.

Elected e-payment, to avoid montly charges. After two months, began getting $2 monthly charge for printed bill anyway. Another call to customer service to fix this (hopefully has).

Ordered calling card twice. Never received it.

Charges more than the 2.7/min. claimed. Actually .03/ minute for both in and out state.

I have some credit coming. Will switch after it is used up.

Opex Value Plus 2.7

Overall Rating:
4.7 out of 5
By: Pam Bachman on Tuesday, September 04, 2007
From: Mishawaka, IN (United States)
Experience: 60 Days
Pros: Inexpensive, good service

Cons: Did not add my local toll calls when I signed up

Summary: I am pleased with this service. I do not use long distance or local toll service very often so I needed an inexpensive but reliable service and I did not want to use AT&T which was my option for local calls. My only problem is that I switched to email bill and still received a paper bil this month.

OPEX Long Distance Service

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5
By: LA Wauters on Tuesday, August 14, 2007
From: Albuquerque, NM (United States)
Experience: 3 Months
Pros: Economical and easy to sign-up
Web based billing

Cons: Service itself
Customer Service

Summary: My service never worked. I kept getting the message "Managed Long Distance, calls of this nature cannot be made at this time." Called Customer Service the end of June and it was supposedly fixed in 8-10 hours. Tried making an International call again a few weeks later and still received this recording. Called Customer Service again who had no record of the first call/issue. Provisioning dept. was apparently not working weekends. Service was never functional and each customer service rep made no notes or even valid attempts at fixing the issue promptly. My only choice was to switch carriers for service that I could actually use.

From: Boston, MA (United States)
Experience: 2 Years
Pros: Nothing

Cons: Everything

Summary: Opex used to be a great company and then they sold it to Total Call International from CA. Customer service is in the tank, billing has new fee's (hidden), on line billing is broken, caller id on calls is missing on instate calls... should I go on ??

Great plan and price, but the billing process is horrible

Overall Rating:
3.8 out of 5
By: J Sanders on Monday, July 30, 2007
From: Lutherville, MD (United States)
Experience: 4 Years
Pros: Great plan. Great price. Great customer service reps.

Cons: Customer service reps often say they're doing something, and then the same problem crops up the next month. I also save $2.99 by not having them send me a paper copy of my bill, but I never receive the e-mail letting me know my bill is ready.

Summary: I've been with OPEX for 4 years through various plans. If you're looking to save money, and you don't have VOIP, this is the best plan. But you're going to spend a bit of time tracking down problems with the billing. I was being overcharged $1 each month for a minimum usage fee, and every month they would credit me back a $1 and say it had been fixed. And every month I had to call back and have them credit me another $1 and "fix it" again.

Long Distance - Did you know?

The USF fee is a mandatory fee implemented by the FCC. Companies can however charge a higher % than required. A higher USF fee can have a significant effect on your final bill. We include the USF Fee into our "Yearly Savings" formula which has a significant role in which plan has the highest Yearly Savings value.

This fee goes to High Cost/Low Income Fund, Schools, Libraries, Rural Health Care, and Telecommunications Relay Services or TRS Fund.
