Tracfone User Reviews
![]() DO NOT GET TRACFONE!Overall Rating: By: Brad Salata on Tuesday, November 24, 2009From: Newport Beach, CA (United States) Experience: 4 Months Pros: noneCons: customer service, trafone systemSummary: terrible customer service, over 4 hours on hold, no resolution to problem. All my troubles came from Tracfone, I did nothing. As you can see from most of the other reviews here Tracfone is a lousy company that doesn't give you what you pay for and makes it impossible to make it right. I have given up getting my Tracfone to work and I'm tacking it as a $65.00 lesson on getting screwed. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful Not That BadOverall Rating: By: R T on Thursday, November 19, 2009From: Tampa, FL (United States) Experience: 8 Years Pros: phone service, Price Tag Cons: customer serviceSummary: I and my wife had have Tracfone for years and never had any of the issues that others have mentioned. I will admit that customer service can test your patient, only had to use it once, but since most company outsource their customer service anyway, they are all on the same level anyway. Other than that, it’s inexpensive phone service, I have traveled to different parts of the country and still have service where other carrier couldn’t provide. The phone selections are good and inexpensive, although you won’t find the super duper high tech phones you can get from Verizon, AT&T or Sprint; I don’t use any of that stuff anyway, so way buy it. There are no contracts, no termination fees, no phone insurance to buy, and none of the hassle with major carrier. I buy minutes about every 90 days for 20 to 30 dollars and call who ever, when ever. 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful great buyOverall Rating: By: L N on Saturday, September 05, 2009From: Bismarck, ND (United States) Experience: 8 Years Pros: great service; have to listen carefully to understand, but they are polite and follow-up quickly. They check back more than once to make sure the fix is working. We have had the phone for about 8 years, and only needed to call twice for help.Cons: speaker on our phone is goofy--after awhile we figured out "on" meant "off"!Summary: This is the smartest way to own a cell phone. We spend less than $150 per year to have a phone for when we travel, work or pleasure. We don't need to be constantly connected and find it annoying that other people are so rude with their constant phone checking 6 out of 8 people found this review helpful Worst Customer Service EVER!Overall Rating: By: Dave Foord on Friday, September 04, 2009From: Dingmans Ferry, PA (United States) Experience: 78 Days Cons: Technical support answers changed with every call Unable to transfer minutes to new phone Unable to ship correct replacement phoneSummary: My Tracfone (Motorola W376G) failed to boot; when turned on it automatically shut down. Initial Tracfone rep offered to compensate my replacement costs with minutes; next rep reneged. Six calls, three hours and one week later minutes are not transferred and Tracfone hasn't replaced the phone 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful DO NOT CONSIDER TRACFONEOverall Rating: By: K C on Tuesday, September 01, 2009From: Dubois, WY (United States) Experience: 4 Years Pros: It;s cheapCons: You don't get functioning serviceSummary: Do not under any condtions consider Tracfone. I'd kept it for emergency use and it worked OK, but always charged me 2 units or a 1 minute call from the zip code it was setup in. Sunday I added time online and they failed to give me codes. I called their so called customer service and at the end of an hour while he had added time he left me without service & told me to call Mon. 6 hours on the phone Mon with Supervisors (getting cut off twice and being told to call back after 4 hours) & 2 hours today - same gibbersh with no succes. I won't even touch the issue of poor English. Dodges when asked about a refund. Don't even think about tracfone! 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10, THIS COMPANY IS A 0Overall Rating: By: HAROLD HILL on Thursday, August 20, 2009From: VERO BEACH, FL (United States) Experience: 2 Years Pros: OK PHONE COVERAGECons: TRYING TO GET A NEW PHONE TO WORKSummary: When our phone stopped working we needed to buy a new phone. Had lots of minutes and time on the old phone. Had two sessions with technical staff and was assured in the first case my phone would be working in less than 72 hours. In 72 hours no success and called again and they had no record of previous work. This call lasted hours and they were having difficulty in documenting that I had valid time on the old phone. Finally they said everything was ok and now I have the time and minutes but Tracfone does not recognize our phone. 2 out of 3 people found this review helpful Worst customer service on the planetOverall Rating: By: AJ Settlemyer on Tuesday, August 18, 2009From: Altoona, PA (United States) Experience: 9 Years Pros: Service is good all over the country.Cons: The phones are junk. The customer service is appauling to say the least.Summary: I've been a tracfone user for 9 years. I'm now trying to be on my third phone, which might not be too bad in 9 years. But every time I went from one phone to a new phone I had to jump through hoops to get my number, minutes and expiration date changed over. What really burns me is that the phones have SIM cards in them that you can store your phonebook numbers too, but when you change phones, these people aren't smart enough to transfer your SIM from your old phone to your new phone. They have to ask you for the SIM number of your new phone to program it anyhow so why can't they just bring it from one to the other? But I digress. I bought a new phone a week ago, I tried to activate it and change it online like so many others, and after a day or two of waiting and it still didn't go through I tried calling them. I was on the phone for 4 hours, made 6 calls, got put on hold and hung up on 5 times, and each time got some different ignoramus I could barely understadn that asked me for my name, serial number of both phones, SIM numbers of both phones which are entirely too long, over and over again. And even though I had the persons name I could never get that person back so it was the sam scripted crap over and over again. It's like they don't keep account information. Regarless, this is my last tracfone and we're reporting them to the BBB. Good luck if you decide to go with them. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful TRACFONE ACTIVATIONOverall Rating: By: ROBERT FRISA on Wednesday, August 12, 2009From: HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (United States) Experience: 10 Days Pros: NONECons: LONG, ARDUOUS PROCESSSummary: I RECENTLY PURCHASED A TRACFONE FROM THEIR WEBSITE. I TRIED TO ACTIVATE ONLINE, BUT COULD NOT DO SO. I THEN CALLED TRACFONE. AFTER ONE HOUR AND FOUR DIFFERENT AGENTS, I WAS ABLE TO ACTIVATE. WITH EACH AGENT I HAD TO PROVIDE THE PURCHASE NUMBER, SERIAL NUMBER EMI NUMBER, MY NAME, MY ADDRESS, MY PHONE NUMBER AND THE USUAL LANGUAGE BARRIERS. IT WAS A GRUELING EXPERIENCE. 2 out of 4 people found this review helpful JunkOverall Rating: By: JOHN BELLATTI on Monday, July 20, 2009From: KEALAKEKUA, HI (Uganda) Experience: 10 Days Pros: Advertisements are falseCons: False advertisement of double minutesSummary: Don't be fooled by promise of double minutes, and don't expect much help from "technical" support. Twice they dropped my call, and once, quite creatively, suggested I call back. I did about 5 minutes later only to find that the call center had closed. When I finally got an alien to listen to my complaint. He deffered to his supervisor, who anonymously declined to help me. DON'T BUY TRACFONE 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful customer 1-800-867-7183 wait time initally 10 min. hung up after 120 min.Overall Rating: By: Jan McIntyre on Friday, July 03, 2009From: Kelso, WA (United States) Experience: 6 Years Pros: Prior to the last few times of adding air time minutes thought Tracfone was good. 6 months ago same seniaro but after 60 plus minutes some employee actually added an extra 30 day airtime as I complained alot about the long wait - (asked to speak with a supervisor for some sort of compensation and he was able to do this without transferring)Cons: No person on customer phone. Had recently suggested to a friend to purchase a Tracfone for her teenager but will advise differently now.Summary: 07-03-09 unable to do prompts on Nokia (had since Tracfone 1st came out 2003) so dialed 1-800-867-7183 prompts stated estimated wait time 10 min.; contunied to hold hopeing to speak with a person (made mac. salad and 2 batches of brownies for the busy 4th of July) landline phone has minutes listed. What a waste of time! Very upsetting not to have some sort of compensation regaurding my time and hopefullness of speaking with a rep. since I heard hundreds of times how important this phone call was to Tracfone. Would appreciate if an employee were to read these and contact customers that have problems - I will never do phone prompts again. 2 out of 2 people found this review helpful |
